Many non technical people are frequently publishing posts in forums and forms on web sites these days. Wether it’s facebook or a support forum or a CV online. Sure there are plenty of resources to get the answer from all over the web if you know where to look. To make matters easy I am going to do it right here due to numerous requests.

To do a line like this:

Welcome to Anjo Promotions and contact me by email.

The text would look like this in HTML

Welcome to Anjo Promotions and contact me by email

The important thing to remember is <a href”http://www.whatever.net”> before the word which is linked to switch the link off.

To make the link go to a new browser window or tab add target=”_blank” after the link like so:

link text

The mailto:name@whatever.net forces your email program to open to send an email to the address specified.

I hope this clears up a few mysteries for the non technically minded.

I had to laugh the other day but at the same time it was a serious situation for the business involved. I read about a customer who had made a split second decision to move to another web company without consulting the original company who had set his on line business up!

The new company of course promised the earth however things didn’t work out well they sacked them, only to find that the registered administer of the website was the original web company. Only on the say so of the original company could the site have changes made. You can imagine the panic at the prospect of fees in exchange for co-operation.

Luckily the tale of woe had a happy ending the original web company were magnanimous and graciously moved the administrator’s email address to the address of their choice. It could have had an unhappy ending so PLEASE remember the following before moving on to another web company.

Is your company the registered holder of the domain name. If in doubt do a WHOIS Lookup

Make sure you have access to the adminstration control panel and UNDERSTAND it

Accept there must be some charge for moving on

Before doing any move remember the old adage of ‘better the devil you know‘

oday the concept of web designers spending days handcrafting the mechanics of your site is over, websites which cut it are web based applications. Put simply you provide a logo and incorporate it into a consistent theme for your site, then you edit the pages in a browser.

One of the first systems for this was phpnuke then came mambo and joomla as content management systems. The fastest growing system has come from the blog ‘Wordpress‘ being the bees knees. The advantages of creating your website this way is as follows:

Fast update to your site

Quickly indexed by Google and other search engines

Easy incorporation of tools to earn revenue from your site

Your audience can be kept informed of changes on your site

Plenty of time to fine tune your sites branding

Fast linking to video clips and other media
