Many non technical people are frequently publishing posts in forums and forms on web sites these days. Wether it’s facebook or a support forum or a CV online. Sure there are plenty of resources to get the answer from all over the web if you know where to look. To make matters easy I am going to do it right here due to numerous requests.

To do a line like this:

The text would look like this in HTML

The important thing to remember is before the word which is linked to switch the link off.

To make the link go to a new browser window or tab add target=”_blank” after the link like so:

The mailto:name@whatever.net forces your email program to open to send an email to the address specified.

I hope this clears up a few mysteries for the non technically minded.

As the recession bites administration for clubs can be a headache and costly. The solution is to use a forum or bulletin board as a club room. If the software is good all manner of modifications can be made.

Private rooms can be made for the committee

Donations and fees can be collected

Members can be approved before joining

Moderators can re post items into their correct categories

The minutes of any meetings can be recorded

Travel expenses can be saved

As time goes on the forum grows into a magazine

Newsletters can be sent with minimum effort.

Checklist Before Parting Company With Your Webmaster

I had to laugh the other day but at the same time it was a serious situation for the business involved. I read about a customer who had made a split second decision to move to another web company without consulting the original company who had set his on line business up!

The new company of course promised the earth however things didn’t work out well they sacked them, only to find that the registered administer of the website was the original web company. Only on the say so of the original company could the site have changes made. You can imagine the panic at the prospect of fees in exchange for co-operation.

Luckily the tale of woe had a happy ending the original web company were magnanimous and graciously moved the administrator’s email address to the address of their choice. It could have had an unhappy ending so PLEASE remember the following before moving on to another web company.

Is your company the registered holder of the domain name. If in doubt do a WHOIS Lookup
Make sure you have access to the adminstration control panel and UNDERSTAND it
Accept there must be some charge for moving on
Before doing any move remember the old adage of ‘better the devil you know‘

Websites must be editable by owner and edible by audience
